Wenchang Pavilion, also known as Wenxing Pavilion or Pian Yun Pavilion, was originally built in Tongshen Daoyuan and was relocated to Lianchi Chan Yuan in the 38th year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign (1773). Inside the pavilion, the Wenqu Star, who governs the literary fortune and appoints top scholars, is enshrined. People come here to pray for divine blessings, hoping that local scholars will be listed on the honor roll.
Wenchang Pavilion stands 15.6 meters tall, with four sides and three levels, resembling a pagoda. It features yellow walls and red eaves, with wind chimes ringing melodiously. In the past, it was a place where literati and refined scholars gathered to contemplate and exchange poetic verses. Today, the pavilion displays poems composed by famous Ming Dynasty figures Gao Qi, Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, and Zhu Zhishan for Jinxi. As visitors recite these verses, the beautiful scenery of the water town and ancient town emerges vividly, greatly stimulating their interest in exploring.
