The West Pagoda, also known as the West Pagoda Temple, is located in the old street of Huangjing Town, Taicang City, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. The original site was the Great Emperor Temple in the Ming Dynasty and was later destroyed by a fire. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, local people raised funds to rebuild it. In the early years of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, the rear hall was built to worship the Bodhisattva Liwang.
In 1850 (the thirtieth year of Daoguang), the West Pagoda was built. There are two halls in front and back, and there are side rooms on the west side. It was renamed the West Pagoda Temple. The West Pagoda is six-sided and five-story, with a brick-wood structure, upturned eaves and corners, a gourd top, rising abruptly from the flat ground, with an antique flavor. The outer wall of each side on the bottom floor of the tower is 2. 25 meters wide, with a circumference of 1.35 meters and an area of about 30 square meters. The tower is 15.5 meters high. You can climb to the top floor by ladder and overlook the beautiful scenery by the river. It is currently a better tourist attraction in Huangjing area.
