Wolong Mountain Scenic Area is located in Hao Ba Town, Shangyu. The mountain’s terrain undulates, stretching for dozens of miles from east to west, with twists and turns resembling a dragon lying in wait. The main peak, Vajra Peak, stands at an elevation of 320 meters. Within the mountain’s recesses lies the Pujing Temple (originally known as Pujing Lotus Society), which was established during the Southern Song Dynasty and has experienced periods of decay and restoration. It was significantly renovated during the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods of the Qing Dynasty. In the 1980s, the Temple of the Three Sages, the Great Compassion Hall, the Ksitigarbha Hall, and newly sculpted jade Buddhas of Shakyamuni, Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara, Maitreya, and Samantabhadra, among other Bodhisattvas, were restored. The temple now covers an area of 50 acres, with the main structures being the Mahavira Hall and the Buddha Recitation Hall. It also features a dedicated library and the Jialan Hall, among others, offering a complete range of architectural styles in a tranquil environment. It has now become a religious activity venue open to the public.
Pujing Temple is designed in a quadrangle style, surrounded by a fence enclosing an area of 40,000 square meters, where a variety of fruit trees and flowers are extensively planted. Vegetable fields, orchards, and tea hills are sparsely arranged, with towering bamboo forests lining both sides of the central avenue, and dense, dark green pine forests acting as a natural barrier in all directions, creating a spectacular natural garden. A gentle breeze blows, making one feel as if they are in an ancient paradise.
Standing high within the temple and looking into the distance, the Cao’e River winds around the mountain to the right, like a silver ribbon meandering eastward, eventually flowing into the Qiantang River estuary. It is truly an excellent place for summer retreat and a sacred site for purification. The opening hours and business status are subject to the actual opening conditions on the day.
