To the west of Twin Pagoda Garden is the Wu Zuoren Art Museum, covering an area of 1,430 square meters. Mr. Wu Zuoren’s ancestral home is Anhui. His father settled in Suzhou in the late Qing Dynasty. He was born and lived in Suzhou for more than twenty years and has deep feelings for Suzhou. In 1989, Mr. Wu expressed his willingness to donate his artworks to Suzhou for long-term display and exhibition free of charge. To praise Mr. Wu Zuoren’s contribution to China’s art cause and thank him for his deep love for Suzhou, the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and the municipal government decided to build the Wu Zuoren Art Museum. At the end of 1993, the art museum was completed. The art museum has 90 works donated by Mr. Wu Zuoren to his hometown Suzhou for the first time, 10 works by his wife, Ms. Xiao Shufang, and 10 works by his grandfather, elder brother and elder sister, totaling 110 works. Among them, there are 18 oil paintings, 17 Chinese paintings, 15 calligraphies, and 40 sketches and watercolors, reflecting the elegance of the Wu family of artists.
