Located on the west side of the Shuangta Pagoda Garden, the Wu Zuoren Art Museum covers an area of 1,430 square meters. Mr. Wu Zuoren, originally from Anhui, settled in Suzhou with his father in the late Qing Dynasty. Born and residing in Suzhou for over two decades, he harbored a deep affection for the city. In 1989, he expressed his willingness to donate his artwork to Suzhou for permanent display. In recognition of Mr. Wu Zuoren’s contributions to Chinese art and to express gratitude for his love for Suzhou, the Suzhou Municipal Committee and the government decided to build the Wu Zuoren Art Museum. The museum was completed by the end of 1993. The museum houses 90 works donated by Mr. Wu Zuoren to his hometown Suzhou, 10 works by his wife, Ms. Xiao Shufan, and 10 works by his grandfather and siblings, totaling 110 pieces. These include 18 oil paintings, 17 Chinese paintings, 15 calligraphic works, and 40 sketch watercolors, showcasing the charm of the Wu family’s artistic legacy. The museum is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-16:00; closed on Mondays (except public holidays).
