Located near the Lu River, within the territory of Xueyan Township in Wujin and Huchang Township in Xishan City. This city was constructed by King Helv of Wu during the Spring and Autumn period, specifically in the sixth year of King Jing of Zhou (514 BC), to defend against the attacks of Chu and Yue. It was built under the supervision of the minister Wu Zixu, making it an important ancient military stronghold.
According to surveys, the city is surrounded by rivers on all sides, with only the southwest half of the city wall remaining. The city is rectangular, approximately 2420 meters in circumference, about 910 meters long from east to west, and about 600 meters wide from north to south. The base of the city wall is about 20 meters wide, and the current height varies from 2 to 4 meters. No bricks or stones were found in the cross-section of the city wall, indicating that it was built entirely of earth. There is a gap about 36 meters wide on the south side of the city, slightly to the east, which may have been the gate at that time. The city’s strategic location is enhanced by the mountains of Xu, Pu, and Long behind it, with the Nanshan mountain range in the distance and a large lake to the left. The beacon towers on the mountains and the earthen city below allow for both offensive and defensive strategies. The opening hours and business status are subject to the day’s actual opening conditions.Wujin Helv City
