At the eastern end of Gaochun Old Street, there is a group of tall and spacious Qing Dynasty buildings. This is the famous Wu’s Ancestral Hall. This group of buildings was built in the Qing Dynasty. It is built according to the terrain, with the gate facing Guanchuan River and backed by the old street. The layout is divided into the front main entrance (opera tower), the middle ancestral hall, and the back sacrificial hall. There are patios in between and wing rooms on the sides. The building area is more than 820 square meters. Wu’s Ancestral Hall uses a large amount of wood carving craftsmanship in the building. There are more than 80 large and small wood carvings on the opera tower alone. They are the essence of wood carvings in the old street. For example, there is a high-relief ‘two phoenixes playing with peonies’ on the ceiling of the stage, and a relief ‘two dragons playing with pearls’ between the caisson ceilings. During the stay in Gaochun, the headquarters of the first detachment was set up here. Therefore, Wu’s Ancestral Hall is not only a fine ancient building but also a revolutionary cultural relic.
