The Wuxi Kiln Sites Museum is located on Dayao Road, at the intersection of the ancient Grand Canal and the Bodugang River. The museum is also the first theme museum in China to comprehensively display the development history of Chinese bricks and tiles. The museum is rebuilt from the site of the former Qingming Parallel Water Belt Factory on Dayao Road. The total exhibition area of the exhibition hall is about 3000 square meters. On the first floor, the exhibition hall of ‘Wuxi Brick and Tile History’ displays various brick products produced in Wuxi, including city bricks, square bricks, tomb bricks, etc.
On the second floor, there are imitation ancient bricks and tiles unearthed in China, physical objects collected from various places, and modern brick-making machinery models on display, reflecting the historical evolution of Chinese bricks and tiles. On the second floor of the museum exhibition hall, there is a corridor connecting to the two-story building on the side of the dock. After the opening of the ancient canal water tourism, tourists can come to the museum to visit from both land and water routes. It is understood that there are currently 108 ancient kiln site ruins on Dayao Road, and more than a dozen of them are relatively well preserved. There are three old kiln site ruins on the back of the museum. The museum selectively displays some ancient kiln site ruins in main and profile physical forms. Combined with tourists’ interactive experience of the brick and tile production process, it forms an intuitive and extremely shocking ancient site display group. The museum treasures a large number of ancient brick and tile physical objects. The treasure of the museum is the ‘golden brick’ specially used in the ancient imperial palace as rumored.
