Located in the heart of the city at Taihu Square, adjacent to the ancient canal, Wuxi Museum is a merger of the former Wuxi Revolutionary Exhibition Hall, Wuxi Museum, and Wuxi Science and Technology Museum. Here, you can explore the history of Wuxi, appreciate ancient artifacts, and paintings. The museum also employs high-tech facilities to enrich visitors’ experiences.
The Wuxi Museum consists of two underground floors and five above-ground floors, with an impressive exterior that shines gold under the sunlight and becomes a dazzling spectacle at night with its lights on. While the interior exhibits may not quite match the grandeur of the exterior, it is an excellent place for educational entertainment, especially for children. The exhibition areas inside the building are somewhat scattered, but visitors can ask the staff for directions if they get lost.
Overall, the west wing showcases history, the east wing is dedicated to science and technology, and there is a 4D cinema in the middle, which requires an additional payment of 30 yuan. The basement features a virtual Western Art Gallery, styled in European decor and showcasing famous Western artifacts and architecture through advanced multimedia. The temporary exhibition hall is also located in the basement, and visitors can check the official website for specific exhibitions.
The museum’s permanent cultural exhibitions include the city-themed ‘Wu Feng Xi Yun’ (first floor), ‘Ancient Tomb Treasures’ displaying artifacts from the Yuan Dynasty Qian Yu Tomb, ‘Purple Jade and Gold Sand’ featuring Zisha teapots, ‘Clay Sculpture Elegance’ showcasing Hui Shan clay figurines, ‘Wuxi People’, and ‘Blood and Fire: A Brief History of Wuxi Revolution’. The Xu Beihong Art Pavilion displays some authentic works by Xu Beihong. Interactive high-tech facilities in some thematic science and technology exhibition halls make them particularly interesting.
