Wuyi Lane is located to the south of Confucius Temple. During the Three Kingdoms period, it was the location of the barracks of the troops guarding Shitou City by Wu State’s governor. At that time, all soldiers wore black uniforms, so it was named ‘Wuyi’ Lane. In the early Eastern Jin Dynasty, Minister Wang Dao lived here, and later it became the residential area of powerful families such as the Wangs and the Xies. Wuyi Lane was bustling with activity and filled with dignitaries. Cultural giants such as Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi, and Xie Lingyun, the originator of the landscape poetry school, emerged from here. Wuyi Lane has witnessed the artistic achievements of the Wang and Xie families and is closely connected with the history of the two great families and even the entire history of Chinese culture. In 1997, the Wang Dao and Xie An Memorial Hall with national style was rebuilt in Wuyi Lane, and some relevant historical materials and cultural relics were widely collected. In the ancient residence, one can learn about the historical overview of the Wang and Xie families represented by Wang Dao and Xie An and the ancient capital Nanjing during the Six Dynasties period, and recall the achievements and contributions made by many outstanding figures in the fields of politics, military, and culture. The main buildings of the ancient residence are Laiyan Hall and Jianjin Tower. In addition, there are exhibitions of the Wang and Xie families, exhibitions of the history and culture and art of the Six Dynasties, a diorama of the Battle of Feishui, an exhibition room of daily life in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, calligraphy and painting of the Six Dynasties, a sculpture hall, and a mural hall of Ode to the Goddess of Luo River.
