Lingyan Cave is one of the scenic spots on the north line of Wuyuan, consisting of 36 karst caves. Currently, visitors can only tour Hanxu Cave and Lianhua Cave. Inside the caves, apart from the stalagmites and stone forests formed by water erosion on limestone, one can also admire the inscriptions left by historical celebrities such as Yue Fei and Zong Ze. The ancient villages and ancient trees around the scenic area are also worth a visit. Hanxu Cave is divided into seven levels, with the entrance located at the sixth level. After touring levels 6 and 7, visitors proceed to explore the lower levels on foot, eventually reaching the underground river at the bottom, from where they exit the cave by boat. The representative feature of the cave is the ‘Ancient Bodhi Tree’ on the fifth level, resembling a Bodhi tree that requires several people to embrace and serves as the main support of Hanxu Cave. Not far ahead is ‘Zong Ze’s Inscription,’ left by Yue Fei’s teacher Zong Ze during his visit to Lingyan Cave, which is one of the prides of Lingyan Cave. Between the fourth and fifth levels, there is a scene that resembles a catastrophic collapse, with steep cliffs around and fallen boulders below, as if formed by a rockslide, creating a spectacular scene. The scenery in the lower levels is more delicate; the ‘Golden Mountain Silver Mountain’ pool has water of two colors, gold and silver, with sparkling mineral deposits in the water, and the enticing name ‘Golden Mountain Silver Mountain’ leaves a deep impression. The open and layered ‘Fairy Fields’ resemble naturally formed terraces, with one area where water droplets deposit in concentric circles like petals, resembling a large ‘Peony’ blooming in the field, which is probably the most aesthetically pleasing stone scene in the cave. On the cave ceiling ahead, there are lotus-shaped stalagmites, which are not only aesthetically pleasing but also rare for growing upside down. Walking down to the lower underground river, one can take a small boat to exit the cave. Rowing on the river, visitors can slowly appreciate the surrounding cliffs, as if experiencing an adventure. After exiting Hanxu Cave, one must climb up the mountain to reach Lianhua Cave. Due to its distance and some repetition in scenery compared to Hanxu Cave, it is less frequented by tourists. The famous feature inside is ‘Laojun Refining Elixir.’ At the foot of the mountain, near the village entrance of Shicheng, there is an ancient forest with trees such as ancient maples, ginkgo, Chinese torreya, yew, camphor, and locust trees, some of which are a thousand years old. Visitors can stroll through the ancient village and view the ancient trees. There are also nearby shops that can accommodate food and lodging needs. The scenic area is open all year round from 07:30 to 17:00.
