Wuzhen Grand Theatre, which commenced operation in May 2013, serves as the main venue for the inaugural Wuzhen International Theatre Festival. The theatre is located at the entrance of the West Scenic Area of Wuzhen, by the Yuanbao Lake, with an ecological parking lot to the east and the Mu Xin Art Museum to the west. Visitors can reach the theatre by taking a traditional Wuzhen boat or walking across a wooden bridge from the island.
The Wuzhen Grand Theatre integrates multiple functions such as drama, concert performances, exhibitions, and cultural art exchanges. It also supports cultural activities like rehearsals, meetings, and research, earning the accolade of ‘China’s Beautiful Theatre’. The design of the theatre is inspired by the concept of a twin lotus, appearing as if a blooming lotus on the lake when viewed from above. The exterior walls are adorned with ancient Beijing bricks and old shipwood with ice crack window lattices.
The theatre consists of one underground floor and seven above-ground floors, housing a large theatre and a medium-sized multifunctional theatre, with a total capacity of 1,500 spectators. The large theatre is the core building of the Wuzhen Grand Theatre, decorated with traditional Wuzhen blue-and-white print cloth patterns on the auditorium walls and the dome. It features three-tiered seating, with a separate box on the second floor, totaling 1,135 seats.
