Wuzhen Xizha Scenic Area – North Wetland

The Wuzhen North Wetland covers an area of approximately 10.08 square kilometers, featuring seven scenic spots: ‘Autumn Reeds in Snow,’ ‘High Manor Traces,’ ‘Fishing Village Misty Waters,’ ‘River Islet Listening to Melodies,’ ‘Deep Pool Gathering Boats,’ ‘Winding Waters Seeking Plum Blossoms,’ and ‘Persimmon Forest Autumn Colors.’ It also includes two embankments: ‘Blessing Embankment’ and ‘Green Embankment.’

North Wetland is the only rare wetland in China that integrates urban, agricultural, and cultural wetlands, and it is the country’s first national wetland park. It encompasses the five major cultural elements of ‘Buddhist,’ ‘Secluded,’ ‘Common,’ ‘Leisure,’ and ‘Wild,’ with zoning characteristics of ‘Secluded South,’ ‘Common North,’ ‘Lively East,’ and ‘Quiet West.’

The essence of Wuzhen culture is encapsulated in ‘One Garden and Five Lands’: Hong Garden, the debut place of Yue Opera, the sacred land of poets, the breeding ground of Water Margin, the leisure land of literati, and the concentrated folk culture area.
