Xiancan Temple, commonly known as the Silkworm Flower Hall, is located in the ancient town of Shengze, one of China’s four major silk capitals. It was reopened to the public after renovation in 1999. The temple was originally built in the 20th year of the Daoguang Emperor’s reign (1840) of the Qing Dynasty. It is a large-scale ancient building in the Jiangnan region and nationwide that promotes the culture of silk, and it is also one of the few remaining temples dedicated to the Silkworm God.
From ancient times to the present, the temple has always hosted the Xiaoman Opera during the Xiaoman Festival. Inside the temple, the Silkworm King Hall enshrines three statues: the cultural ancestors Yan Emperor Shennong, the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan, and the Silkworm Flower Goddess Leizu. The inner courtyard has a unique and exquisite style.
