Xiao Longzhong is situated at the southeast foot of Dongnan Peak of Gonglong Mountain, facing Taihu Lake, and neighboring the ancient town of Mudu. Originally named Xiaowang Mountain, also known as Qintai Mountain, it stands at a height of 53.9 meters, yet boasts an extremely rich array of ecological and cultural resources.
Li Genyuan, in 1923, retreated from politics due to his opposition to Cao Kun’s bribery in elections and began residing in Xiao Longzhong until 1937 when the Anti-Japanese War broke out, prompting his return to public life. During his decade-long seclusion in Xiao Longzhong, Li Genyuan planted hundreds of thousands of pine trees and meticulously created the ‘Ten Views of the Pine Sea’ in Xiao Longzhong, which include the Ten Thousand Pine Pavilion, Pine Listening Pavilion, Spring Listening Stone, Green Blowing Peak, Xiao Longzhong, Lion’s Den, Filial Piety Platform, Lake and Mountain Hall, Pear Cloud Stream, and Spiritual Pond. Xiao Longzhong is also a significant collection of modern rock carvings in the East China region, with a rich collection of cliff inscriptions. It gathers over 550 inscriptions written by more than 240 celebrities, with a complete range of styles including regular script, cursive script, clerical script, and seal script, making it an open-air treasure trove of calligraphic art.
