Xike Spring, as ancient as Mount Mao, is located on the northwestern slope of the Great Mao Peak, to the right of the Panshan Highway and the Juqu Bridge. It has been a tourist destination since ancient times and is listed as the foremost among the nineteen springs of Mount Mao. It was officially opened to the public in early 2003. The spring is surrounded by slab stones with a diameter of 2 to 3 meters. When tourists approach the spring and clap their hands, they will see water beads emerging from the spring, resembling a verdant ridge spitting out jade, or the spring’s joy at the arrival of guests. In the Song Dynasty, You Mao wrote a poem saying, ‘The secluded spring is glad to see guests,’ and in the Yuan Dynasty, Wu Quanjie wrote, ‘Ten thousand beads coldly surge in the blue glass, the mountain color and sky light are worth a pool.’ In the Ming Dynasty, Chen Yi wrote, ‘Clapping above the pool, the spring below is scattered in all directions. The sound is noisy and boiling, scattered like broken beads. To ask why this is so, people say this is the lung of the place. The news is connected with people, and the movement follows the sound. My lungs are just thirsty, so I take a handful to irrigate for a while.’ In the early 1990s, the ‘Greeting Guest Spring’ in the TV series ‘Chinese Springs’ referred to this spring. Opening hours: Open all year round, 24 hours a day.
