Xinyegucun (Xinye Ancient Village)

Xinye Ancient Village is located in the southwest of Jiande. It is currently one of the larger ancient villages inhabited by the Ye family in China. This was originally an unknown ancient village. After it became a filming location for ‘Dad, Where Are We Going Season 2’ in July 2014, the number of tourists began to increase. They also launched a ‘same as the stars’ parent-child experience for tourists to experience the tasks that the stars challenged in the show. Buying tickets is to enter several more representative old houses. Without buying tickets, you can also stroll around the village and explore the alleys. Walking counterclockwise along the arrows on the tourist map in the scenic area takes about one or two hours.

What to see and what to do? Xinye Village gives people a feeling of being ancient and traditional. When touring in an ancient village, people originally mainly looked at the architectural layout and carving decoration details. Now, visiting the scenes in ‘Dad, Where Are We Going Season 2’ is also one of the reasons why many people come to Xinye. The houses and filming scenes where the star dads and cute kids lived are preserved as they were. Almost all the tasks performed in the show, such as grinding tofu, pushing a wheelbarrow, and picking up objects from the water in a water chestnut bucket, can be experienced (some items require an additional fee ranging from 5 to 20 yuan).

Village buildings and scenery. Tuanyun Tower, Wenchang Pavilion, and Tudici Temple at the entrance of the village stand side by side. They are the landmark buildings of Xinye Village and also symbolize the farming and reading ideals and pursuits that local people have inherited for generations: ‘Farming can bring wealth, and reading can provide a place to live.’ The ancient village is surrounded by a lotus pond. Especially in summer, the ancient village against the backdrop of the moonlight over the lotus pond is like a paradise. Coming here in summer and taking pictures of Wenchang Pavilion and Tuanyun Tower with the lotus pond as the foreground is as beautiful as a painting.

Rooms where star dads and cute kids lived. Most of the houses where the stars lived in the show are also representatives of the village buildings, concentrated around Nantang. Nantang is a relatively large pond in the village. The classic scenery is the reflection of white walls and black tiles in the water. There are often women washing clothes and children playing by the water, creating a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. By the pond is the 3-square-meter shack ‘Shuiyunjian’ where Yang Wei and his son lived. Playing with the water chestnut bucket is also here. The other several houses around it also have their own characteristics. Hanmoxuan can experience making clay sculptures and grinding tofu. Shuangmeitang is the ‘luxury house’ in the village, with a courtyard in front, a garden in the back, and a fish pond in the middle. The wine cellar of Zuixianju is memorable for the wine jars in the house. You can also taste the local specialty native wine for free. If you are interested, you might as well buy some to take home.

Accommodation and dining. There are farmhouses in the ancient village for accommodation and dining. If you plan to stay overnight in the village, it is recommended to stay at Mingxiangyuan. The interior is decorated in a Chinese classical style. Some rooms are fully furnished with classical furniture from the Ming and Qing dynasties. You can sleep on a hundred-year-old bed (around 200 yuan). In terms of dining, in Shouchang Town not far from Xinye, which is the town where the children went to buy groceries in the show, there will be more choices.

Residents of Shouchang have a preference for spicy food, so you may request the chef to use less chili. If you come across the local specialty, crystal cake, it is recommended to try it as it has a delightful taste.
