Xu Beihong Memorial Hall, also known as ‘Yi Garden’, is a commemorative museum established in honor of Xu Beihong, an outstanding modern Chinese painter and art educator. The museum opened on October 26, 1988, featuring a three-story modern building with a national style, covering a total area of 1200 square meters, with an exhibition area of 500 square meters. It is divided into five exhibition rooms, displaying Xu Beihong’s life story, works, as well as works from his students and some famous calligraphers and painters. Xu Beihong (1895.7-1953.9) was an outstanding master and art educator of modern Chinese art. He studied painting at Aurora University in 1914, studied abroad in Japan in 1917, and entered the Paris Fine Arts School in France in 1923. He excelled in Chinese painting, oil painting, and sketching. He served as a professor in the Art Department of Nanjing Central University, Dean and Professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and Chairman of the China Artists Association. He has published various collections, including ‘Sketch Collection’ and ‘Xu Beihong’s Painting Collection’. The museum is open all year round from 09:00 to 17:00, with specific business status subject to the day’s opening conditions.
