Xu Xiake’s Former Residence is located in Majintown (Xu Xiake Town), Jiangyin City, covering an area of 1000 square meters and originally built in the Ming Dynasty. Inside the residence, a plaque reads ‘Xu Xiake’s Former Residence’, and it showcases Xu Xiake’s life story, various karst specimens, and modern papers and monographs written by experts and scholars, as well as over forty photographs of places Xu Xiake visited.

On the east side of the courtyard in front of the main hall, a robust and lush podocarpus tree, planted by Xu Xiake himself, stands tall. The tree is now 6.50 meters high with a base diameter of 2.2 meters, requiring two people to embrace its trunk. It has a history of over four hundred years.

In the backyard of the residence lies Xu Xiake’s Ming-style tomb, covering an area of 745 square meters, with podocarpus, ground cypress, and magnolia trees planted on both sides, all renowned plants from the Jiangnan region. At the end of the cemetery, in front of the altar, stands a 2.70-meter-tall statue of Xu Xiake, holding a bamboo hat, as if he has just returned from a long journey through the mountains and rivers of his country. The site is open from 08:30 to 16:30 all year round; from 08:30 to 17:00 during the whole year.
