Xu Xiake’s Former Residence is located in Mazhen Town (Xu Xiake Town), Jiangyin City. It was built in the Ming Dynasty and covers an area of 1000 square meters. Inside Xu Xiake’s Former Residence, there is a plaque hanging with ‘Xu Xiake’s Former Residence’. It displays Xu Xiake’s life story, various karst specimens, papers and monographs written by modern experts and scholars, and more than forty scenic photos of ‘places Xu Xiake visited’. In the courtyard on the east side in front of the main hall of the former residence stands a podocarpus macrophyllus with thick trunk and bald branches but lush green leaves. It was planted by Xu Xiake himself. Now the tree is 6.50 meters high, the root diameter is 2.2 meters, and the main trunk requires two people to embrace. It has a history of more than four hundred years. In the backyard of the former residence is Xu Xiake’s Ming-style relocated tomb. The cemetery area is 745 square meters, and on both sides are planted with famous branches and beautiful flowers in the south such as podocarpus macrophyllus, Sabina procumbens, and Magnolia denudata. In front of the sacrificial altar at the end of the cemetery is a 2.70-meter-high statue of Xu Xiake. He holds a bamboo woven hat, as if he has returned to his hometown after traveling through thousands of mountains and rivers in the motherland.
