The Xuanyuan Palace is located on the hillside near Taihu Lake at the northwest end of Yangwan Ancient Street. It was first built in the second year of Zhenguan in the Tang Dynasty (628 AD). According to research by Mr. Chen Congzhou, an expert in contemporary garden architecture, the main hall was built in the Yuan Dynasty (1338 AD). Although it has been repaired in successive dynasties, the existing wooden structures such as the column bases, prismatic four-gold columns, eave columns, and most of the beam frames and brackets in the hall are undoubtedly relics of the Yuan Dynasty. The existing Yuan Dynasty wooden architecture preserved in Xuanyuan Palace is not abundant in the Jiangnan region and is extremely precious. It has a high level of architectural artistry. Therefore, it has become a famous place for architects, archaeologists, and tourists to visit and observe.
