Xucun Village is the origin of the Xu surname in Huizhou. Xu Guo, a grand secretary in the late Ming Dynasty, and Xu Chengyao, a member of the Imperial Academy in the late Qing Dynasty, are both descendants of the Xu family in Xucun. Historically, Xucun was an important location on the official road and a gathering place for business groups. Now it is the location of a town. Xucun has preserved a relatively complete historical village style. It has diverse building types, a strict layout, and exquisite craftsmanship, and contains extremely rich cultural connotations. On the 1,500-meter-old street from Gaoyang to Qianxi, nearly 200 well-preserved Ming and Qing buildings are still intact. It has high value in architecture, history, academia, environment, anthropology and other aspects. The traditional residential houses and ancestral halls in Xucun are mainly made of wood structure. The exterior walls of buildings are constructed with hollow brick walls. Public buildings such as archways and bridges are mainly made of stone. There are six stone archways, three brick archways, one pavilion, one covered bridge, and many ancestral halls and residential houses. In terms of functional design, layout, brick, wood, stone carvings, inscribed plaques and inscriptions, they reflect the local economic situation, social customs and architectural aesthetics, and have unique research and appreciation value.
