Under Xu Guangqi’s leadership, Catholicism developed in Shanghai, and Xujiahui later became an area rich in Catholic atmosphere and European style. Today, in the scenic spots of Xujiahui Origin, you can still find various religious elements with a sense of history, such as the former site of the Xujiahui Church of the Virgin Mary and the former site of the Xuhui Public School founded by Catholic missionaries.
