Yancheng Ancient Ruins Park is located to the west of Yancheng Spring and Autumn Amusement Park. It is built on the site of a Spring and Autumn city with a history of over 2500 years and features a unique triple city and triple moat structure. When viewed from above, the city resembles concentric circles, which is quite fascinating. The park also has pleasant vegetation during spring and autumn, allowing visitors to stroll while learning about history.
From the innermost to the outermost, Yancheng Ancient Ruins consist of the inner city, inner moat, middle city, middle moat, outer city, and outer moat. Most of the architectural remains from thousands of years ago no longer exist. What visitors see today, such as the Yancheng Turtle Statue, Yan Jun Hall ruins, and Sun Wu’s Thatched Cottage, are all replica buildings.
Signs within the park narrate intriguing stories from the Spring and Autumn period, such as the ruler of Yan who mistakenly killed his beloved daughter, Princess Bailing. To the west of Yancheng Ancient Ruins, there are three burial mounds known as Tou Dun, Du Dun, and Jiao Dun, said to contain the remains of Princess Bailing. Archaeological excavations of Tou Dun suggest that it was indeed used for burials, and it is speculated that the tomb owner might have been a noblewoman.
Yancheng Ancient Ruins Park has two main entrances. The west entrance leads directly into the park, while the east entrance is located within Yancheng Spring and Autumn Amusement Park. Visitors with an amusement park ticket can tour the park for free.Upon entering Yancheng Ancient Ruins Park, staff will tie a wristband on visitors as an identifier. This wristband is crucial for visitors who plan to return to the amusement park after touring the ruins. By simply showing the wristband, they can avoid re-purchasing a ticket.
Exploring Yancheng Ancient Ruins Park can be done in three ways: on foot, by sightseeing vehicle, or by bamboo raft. Walking offers the most freedom, allowing visitors to explore every corner of the park. The sightseeing vehicle, however, cannot reach the inner city, requiring visitors to disembark and continue their tour on foot. It’s important to keep the ticket safe, as staff will mark it with a hole when boarding and another when the vehicle returns to the east gate of the park, which leads to Yancheng Spring and Autumn Amusement Park. Bamboo rafts provide a different experience, traveling along the park’s waterways, but they require separate ticketing.
The park’s operating hours are from 08:00 to 17:00, daily, from January 1st to December 31st. Ticket purchasing is available from 08:30 to 16:00 during January and February, and from 08:00 to 16:00 from March to November.
