Yancheng Ruins Park is located to the west of Yancheng Spring and Autumn Amusement Park, constructed on the site of a Spring and Autumn city with a history of over 2500 years. It features a unique structure of three cities and three rivers, which, when viewed from above, resemble concentric circles, a truly magical sight.
As a park, it boasts lush vegetation during the spring and autumn seasons, allowing visitors to stroll and learn about history at the same time. The Yancheng ruins consist of an inner city, inner moat, middle city, middle moat, outer city, and outer moat, arranged in a nested pattern. Most of the architectural relics from thousands of years ago have disappeared, and what remains, such as the Yancheng divine turtle statue, Yan Jun Hall ruins, and Sun Wu’s thatched cottage, are all replicas of ancient structures.
Signs within the park narrate fascinating stories from the Spring and Autumn period, such as the ruler of Yan killing his beloved daughter, Princess Bailing. On the west side of the Yancheng ruins, there are legendary burial mounds known as Tou Dun, Du Dun, and Jiao Dun, said to contain the three parts of Princess Bailing’s body. Archaeological excavations of Tou Dun have confirmed that the mound was used for burials, suggesting that the tomb’s occupant might have been a noblewoman.
Yancheng Ruins Park has two entrances; the west gate leads directly into the park, while the east gate is located within Yancheng Spring and Autumn Amusement Park. With an amusement park ticket, visitors can tour the park for free. Upon entering Yancheng Ruins Park, staff will tie a wristband on visitors as a mark. After touring the ruins and returning to the amusement park, the wristband must be shown; otherwise, a new ticket is required.
There are three ways to tour Yancheng Ruins Park: on foot, by sightseeing vehicle, or by bamboo raft. Walking allows one to explore every corner of the park; the sightseeing vehicle cannot reach the inner city and requires visitors to disembark and continue the tour on foot. Staff will punch a hole in the visitor’s ticket, and another hole will be punched when returning to the east gate of the park by vehicle, so tickets should be kept safe. Bamboo rafts travel along the park’s waterways and require separate tickets.
