Yangchan Earth Buildings are located in Shendu Town, in the southern mountainous region of Anhui Province.
Yangchan, nestled among the mountains in the southern Anhui mountains, is a small village built against the mountains. Due to its high terrain and inconvenient transportation, for centuries, the mountain dwellers have utilized local materials, using the surrounding bluestones for paving roads and building bridges, and using red soil and timber to construct their dwellings. They work from sunrise to sunset, drinking from mountain springs and eating grains, with various crops growing and descendants continuing. Over the years, a series of closely arranged, orderly, and simple yet spectacular earth buildings have been formed. The well-preserved Yangchan Earth Buildings hold significant historical and cultural importance for the study of ancient Chinese architecture.
