Yanggong Causeway

Yanggong Causeway, which runs roughly parallel to Su Causeway, is the only vehicular passage among the three causeways of West Lake. This long causeway stretches out to connect with the mountains surrounding West Lake, originally constructed under the supervision of Yang Mengying, the prefect of Hangzhou during the Ming Dynasty. Over time, due to the sedimentation of West Lake, it gradually became land. In recent years, to restore the ancient appearance of West Lake, the water area has been dredged, allowing Yanggong Causeway to be restored to its former state.

The greenery along Yanggong Causeway is exceptional, and there are several scenic spots along the way, including the former residence of Gai Jiaotian, Guo Mansion, Hangzhou Flower Garden, and Maojiabu, although they are somewhat scattered. The six bridges on the causeway, due to their significant ups and downs, have earned the nickname ‘rush bridges’ among Hangzhou cyclists, with timid riders often screaming on the downhill.

Yanggong Causeway is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
