Yangmeizhu Xijie, situated southwest of Qianmen, stretches from Meishi Street in the east to Yanshou Street in the west. Historically, it was known as ‘Xie Jie’ during the Ming Dynasty because of its northeast to southwest incline, which is the origin of its current name. This street was a cultural epicenter, home to distinguished individuals such as Liang Shizheng, a Grand Secretary in the Qing Dynasty during the Qianlong era, and the modern literary figure Shen Congwen.
