Yanziji Park is located on the south bank of the Yangtze River. The pointed mountain top protrudes into the river water. The rocks on both sides stand tall, like swallows spreading their wings to fly. Yanziji, together with Caishiji and Chenglingji, are known as the three famous rocks in the Yangtze River. In the old days, it was an important ferry crossing. Now it is a good place to enjoy the river view.

Imperial Stele Pavilion: Entering the park gate and following the southern inspection path to the top of Yanziji. Emperor Qianlong made six southern inspection tours and ascended Yanziji five times, all by this flight of steps. In the imperial stele pavilion on the top of the mountain, you can still see the stone stele with Emperor Qianlong’s calligraphy ‘Yanziji’. After climbing to the top of the mountain, you will have a broad view. Looking closely, you can see the Yangtze River rolling under the cliff. In the distance, ships are coming and going on the open river surface. Looking east, you can see the Second Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. When the sun sets in the west, the red sun on the river and the fiery red mountain wall of Yanziji are like burning flames. ‘Sunset at Yanziji’ is a major scenic spot in Nanjing.

Admonition Stele: After seeing the wine cup stone beside the imperial stele pavilion that is concave in the middle like a wine glass, go to the admonition stele, another important scenic spot on the top of the mountain. On it is engraved ‘Think about it. You can’t die.’ Yanziji was formerly known as ‘one look, one case’. It means that as soon as you look up, you can see someone attempting suicide. Tao Xingzhi erected this stele to persuade people.

Guanlan Pavilion: Coming down from the top of Yanziji, there is a Guanlan Pavilion by the river. It is also a good viewing spot where you can see Yanziji and the Yangtze River from the side. The Immortal Cave near the pavilion is formed by the impact of the river water and is very dangerous. In addition, there are many cliff inscriptions along the mountain road of Yanziji for viewing, but they are all modern.

In a corner on the east side of the park, there is a triangular stele pavilion. In the pavilion is a stone stele engraved with ‘Monument to Compatriots Killed in the Disaster’. In that year, during the Japanese massacre, 50,000 Chinese people who took refuge in Yanziji and wanted to flee north across the river were killed here.
