The Yanzai Tomb is located on the eastern ridge of Yushan Mountain. The ancient tomb is built against the mountain with a magnificent scale. Its affiliated buildings are relatively complete, including city walls, altars, tomb passages, stone bridges, stone pavilions, fences, stone tablets, etc. Among them, there is a stone archway with the imperial calligraphy of Emperor Qianlong, ‘Dao Qi Dong Nan’, which is a famous large-scale tomb in the south of the Yangtze River.

Yanzai (506 BC – 443 BC), named Yan, styled Ziyou, was from Changshu in the Spring and Autumn Period. He went to the State of Lu to study under Confucius and was the only southerner among Confucius’ three thousand disciples. Yanzai was good at literature, rites and music. He once served as the magistrate of Wucheng in the State of Lu. He expounded on Confucius’ doctrines and educated scholars and common people with rites and music.

There were sounds of stringed instruments and singing everywhere in the territory, which was praised by Confucius. After he completed his studies and returned to the south, he opened up the southeast and was respected as the ‘Confucian Master of the South’ by later generations. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
