Yao Lin Wonderland, also known as Yao Lin Cave, is located in Tonglu County, Zhejiang Province, about 80 kilometers from Hangzhou and approximately 23 kilometers from the county town. This is a renowned cave famous for its stalactite formations, with a total depth of 1 kilometer. The cave is particularly beautiful with various stalagmites and stalactites illuminated by colorful lights. Yao Lin Wonderland is divided into three cavern halls, with notable sights including the ‘Galaxy Waterfall’, ‘Heaven-Pillar Jade Column’, ‘Thirty-Three Heavens’, and ‘Yao Lin Jade Peak’. You can see many stone formations resembling animals such as ‘elephants’, ‘lions’, and ‘frogs’. The best season to visit Yao Lin Wonderland is summer, as the outside temperature can reach 35 degrees Celsius while inside it remains around 18-20 degrees Celsius. It is recommended that children and the elderly bring a light jacket when visiting. From the parking lot to the cave entrance, there is a walk required. The cave is not very large, but due to its winding paths, it can be easy to get lost. Therefore, guides lead visitors through in groups. Accompanying the sound of flowing underground water, the first cavern hall greets you with a rock resembling a lion with a mane on the left side of the entrance, and a group of rocks resembling a herd of elephants with long noses on the right, welcoming guests from afar. In the center of the cavern hall stands the ‘Galaxy Waterfall’, a large rock over 7 meters high and more than ten meters wide, resembling a waterfall and quite spectacular. The stone waterfall has a water autumn stone pillar that has formed over several decades, standing 7 meters high and is elegant and upright. Additionally, there is a ‘Lingzhi Immortal Mountain’, with a small and exquisite stone frog in the mountain, and opposite it, a stone lion lying on the ground, with one lion and one frog guarding the Lingzhi Immortal Herb together. Next is the second cavern hall, where the ‘Heaven-Pillar Jade Column’ stands on the cliff at the end, a tall stone pillar reaching the sky, about 14 meters high with a diameter of about 4 meters, very imposing. There is also a ‘Lion Hall’ with more than 50 stone formations resembling lions, either squatting, leaping, or shaking their manes and roaring, playing with each other in various postures. The third cavern hall features the ‘Thirty-Three Heavens’, with stalagmites scattered all over, layered upon each other, and some compare it to the grand murals of the Tang Dynasty in Dunhuang. Near the end of the cavern hall is a stalagmite called ‘Yao Lin Jade Peak’, weighing about a thousand kilograms. This stalagmite, resembling a goddess draped in white silk and holding flowers, stands gracefully and is considered the treasure of Yao Lin Wonderland, known as the symbol of the place. The entire cave tour takes about an hour, and there is a newly opened rafting activity inside, but it is a bit expensive and short in duration. There are two photography spots within the scenic area, and staff are available to help with taking photos. If you like them, you can buy one for 15 yuan at the exit.
