Yaowan Ancient Town is a national 4A-level tourist attraction. It is located on the southwestern edge of Xinyi City, at the intersection of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and Luoma Lake. It is connected to Suqian, Suining, and Pizhou. It is a water town with a history of a thousand years and is famous all over the country. It is described as ‘looking east to the sea, looking west to Pengcheng, overlooking Huai and Si to the south, and looking north to Mount Tai’. It also has the reputation of ‘Golden Waterway Golden Triangle’ and ‘Water areas in northern Jiangsu are superior to those in southern Jiangsu’, and it is also known as ‘Little Shanghai’. Yaowan integrates ancient town landscapes, lakeland landscapes, places of interest, and fairyland. It has high ornamental, tourist, and historical research value. The thousand-year-old ancient town of Yaowan has a long and splendid history and culture. According to records, here belonged to the jurisdiction of Zhongwu State during the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. During the Qin and Han dynasties, it was a place for burning kilns for military supplies. In the Tang Dynasty, it was located at the junction of Pizhou and Haizhou. Due to the large number of kilns around, it was called Yaowan. A thousand years of the Grand Canal with a hundred bends, and the golden section is in Yaowan. The thousand-year-old locust tree has witnessed the rise and fall of the ancient town of Yaowan. The sauce jars in the backyard are carved with traces of a long time ago. The old-style buildings exude a strong cultural atmosphere. It is like Zhouzhuang in southern Jiangsu with lakes and waters connected by a network of waterways. It is also like Pingyao in Shanxi, with ancient streets and alleys, and the culture has been passed down for thousands of years. The humanistic and historical landscapes of Yaowan Ancient Town are profound. The ancient town was built in the early Tang Dynasty. With the prosperity of water transportation and salt industry in the Ming and Qing dynasties, there were rows of shops in the past, merchants gathered, pedestrians on the street were like weaving, and boats on the water were continuous. In the ancient town, city gates, towers, shops, courtyards, palaces, temples, shrines, and halls were built from the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty. The former appearance of the ancient town, including ancient streets, houses, guild halls, workshops, commercial firms, warehouses, pawnshops, and docks, still remains basically intact.
