Yingyuan Garden, originally named Xingyuan Garden, is a classical garden building with Jiangnan characteristics that has been well-preserved in the whole city so far. It was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, it took the meaning of ‘harmony in body and action’ from ‘Autumn Meditations’ by Pan Yue, a writer of the Western Jin Dynasty, so it was named ‘Xingyuan Garden’. This garden was originally the private residence of Xie Tingyang. Part of it is the former site of ‘Bamboo Shade Pavilion’ of Chu Zhen. Later, it was destroyed by war. The people of the city bought the old residences of Xie and Chu surnames. Taking the meaning of ‘fairyland of Yingzhou’, it was renamed ‘Yingyuan Garden’. The pool was dredged and rocks were piled up. The pool imitates the shape of Xijiu River, which is implicit and charming, and does not let people see it all at once. Piling up mountains and arranging waters has unlimited charm. There are ponds, waterside pavilions, and pavilions and towers in the garden with proper density.
This place once had a school. In the years of war and chaos, it also served as a shelter for the poor for a time. It is worth mentioning that the Yixing painter at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, Xu Dazhang, the father of Xu Beihong, named Yixing Feifei Pavilion, which is still there today. The specific business status of the opening hours is subject to the opening situation on that day.Must Read
