The Grand Buddha Temple was originally named Grand Buddha Nunnery. It was once a temple in Zhanggang, an ancient town. It belongs to the Pure Land School of Buddhism and was later destroyed in the war. In 2003, it was rebuilt on the original site. The exterior wall of the temple is painted with yellow marks. The middle mountain gate is a classical two-story upturned eaves archway. Above the gate crown is embedded with the golden characters ‘Grand Buddha Temple’. Below is a three-arched red mountain gate. Beside the mountain gate are a pair of mighty stone lions. There are couplets hanging on both sides of the mountain gate: ‘Morning bells and evening drums awaken worldly fame and fortune seekers; Sutra sounds and Buddha’s names call back lost passersby in the sea of bitterness.’
