Yongning is located in the coastal area of Shishi City, Quanzhou City, and is a renowned hometown for overseas Chinese. It is an ancient Wei City with a history of over 600 years. Due to its unique geographical location, it has always been an important port and a key maritime defense area in Southeast Fujian. During the Ming Dynasty, the imperial court established a Wei City here. At its peak, it was known as one of the three major Wei Cities in the country, alongside Tianjin Wei and Weihai Wei. Historically, it has made indelible contributions to resisting pirates, foreign invasions, and maritime transportation and economic exchanges.
Yongning Town is rich in cultural and historical heritage. Currently, the town has two provincial-level cultural relics protection units, namely: Guzhu Tower (also known as Wanshou Tower or Guan Suo Tower) and Chenghuang Temple; Shi Shi City-level cultural relics protection units include eight sites, such as Huxi Temple cliff inscriptions, Yongning Wei cliff inscriptions (Zhen Hai Stone), Former Residence of Martyr Li Zifang, Former Residence of Martyr Dong Yunge, Tomb of Ming Dynasty Wu Jinshi Chen Yougang, Cihang Temple, ‘7.
