Yuantong Temple on Guanyin Mountain

According to the records of Wujiang County Annals, Yuantong Temple was built in the Chunxi period of the Song Dynasty, roughly between 1174 and 1189 AD. It was repaired and expanded many times during the Zhizheng period of the Yuan Dynasty, the early Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, and the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. It was quite large in scale and once had prosperous incense and frequent Buddhist activities. Master Yinguang of Lingyan Mountain Temple in Suzhou, who is respected as the thirteenth patriarch of the Lotus Sect in the Buddhist community, also came to Yuantong Temple to give lectures. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva among the twenty-five saints of Buddhism is called Yuantong Zun and Yuantong Das. Most of the explanations in Buddhist doctrines take the meaning of being unimpeded. Whether it is human wisdom, the principles of worldly affairs, or even social practice, one can understand the principles and laws and use them freely. It somewhat means that all wonders are in this way. The standing statue of Thousand-Handed Avalokitesvara in this temple is resplendent, kind-hearted, friendly and warm. It is worth worshiping again and again. The specific business hours and operating status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
