During the Tongzhi era, salt merchants built Zeng Gong Ci at what is now No. 20 Kangshan Street in memory of Zeng Guofan, who was the Governor-General of the Two Rivers and oversaw the salt administration. Zeng Guofan was not only a court minister but also a pillar for salt merchants. Zeng Gong Ci was approved by the imperial court and funded by salt merchants. The alley formed at No. 20 Kangshan Street is now called Zeng Gong Ci Alley. Today, Zeng Gong Ci still preserves the gate tower, main hall, and the reception hall. It is open from January 1st to December 31st, 08:00 to 17:00.
