Zhang Garden is located at the southern end of Taixing Road to the south of Nanjing West Road and to the west of Shimen No.1 Road. Originally, this place was farmland. In 1878, it was built as a garden by British businessman Gron. On August 16, 1882, Chinese businessman Zhang Shuhe purchased this garden from Jardine Matheson. The total area is 21 mu. It is named ‘Zhang’s Weichun Garden’, also known as Zhangjia Garden. Since then, Zhang Shuhe has made many additions and renovations to the garden. By 1894, the total area of the garden reached 61.52 mu, starting from Nanjing West Road (at the intersection of Taixing Road), extending south to Weihai Road, east to Shimen No.1 Road, and west to Maoming North Road.
