Among the rich tourism development resources of Gupi, Zhang Liang Hall is one with relatively profound historical and cultural connotations. Zhang Liang, courtesy name Zifang, was the military adviser of Liu Bang. He was one of the three outstanding figures in the early Han Dynasty and was titled Marquis Liu. Zhang Liang’s grandfather and father served as prime ministers for five generations of kings of the State of Han. After Qin destroyed the State of Han, Zhang Liang, in order to repay the great kindness of the State of Han, spent all his family wealth and hired assassins to assassinate Qin Shi Huang. After failure, he fled to Xiapi to hide to avoid being wanted. Later, he encountered Huang Shigong by chance at the Yique Bridge and obtained ‘Taigong’s Art of War’ (that is the story of Zhang Liang presenting shoes at the Yique Bridge). In 209 BC, Chen Sheng and Wu Guang launched an uprising in Daze Township. Zhang Liang actively responded and encountered Liu Bang by chance. Since then, Zhang Liang has become an important strategist of Liu Bang and made great contributions to the establishment of the Han Dynasty. He was praised by Liu Bang as one of the three outstanding figures in the early Han Dynasty who ‘planned in the tent and won victories thousands of miles away’. To commemorate the ancestor Zhang Liang, people today have rebuilt a Yique Bridge on the original site where Zhang Liang presented shoes and built a Marquis Liu Temple, also known as ‘Zhang Liang Hall’. The Yique Temple constitutes the Yique Garden scenic area, integrating sightseeing, entertainment and learning. It is not only a long scroll of humanistic history but also a base for talent education in the new era, with a strong historical atmosphere and a strong flavor of the times.
