Zhangyan is located 2.7 kilometers northwest of Zhonggu Town, Zhonggu Township. Legend has it that when Zhang Jiefu, also known as Zhang Zhuangjian of the Song Dynasty, supervised the salt affairs of Huating, he built a weir here and settled down, hence the name. The town takes Songze Pond as the city river, leading to Luze in the south and reaching Qinglong in the north. In the Ming Dynasty, business was extremely prosperous.

There is a temple fair every June, and it is known as ‘Golden Zhangyan, Silver Zhonggu’. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, a Xinjing inspection department was set up here, and later it gradually declined. After liberation, most of the stores moved to Zhonggu and it became a village and town. Now there are stores such as department stores, butcher shops, teahouses, and grain stations in the town.

The town is triangularly distributed. There are more than 800 residents, most of whom are engaged in agricultural production. It is said that Zhang Jiefu’s former residence is in the town and is extremely large. There was once a Sitang Hall, and Su Dongpo wrote ‘Records of Sitang Hall’ for it. There is a Zhang family ancestral temple in the south of the town, commonly known as Zhang Temple.
