Zhaoming Academy is located within the Xizha Scenic Area, and it was the place where the Crown Prince of the Southern Dynasty Liang Dynasty studied in his childhood in Wuzhen. Today, visitors can not only admire the quaint fish pond and plaques, but also enjoy a small reading room inside the academy. If time permits, reading a book here is a delightful experience.
The Ming Dynasty ancient archway, inscribed with ‘The Remnants of the Six Dynasties’ and ‘The Study of Liang Zhaoming Crown Prince and Shen Shangshu’, is the emblematic structure of Zhaoming Academy. It is customary for tourists to take photos here as a memento. Surrounded by ponds and ancient trees, visitors can take a short rest and then proceed to the nearby exhibition hall to view ancient plaques and exhibitions of the Mao Dun Literature Prize winners and their works.
Book lovers should not miss the reading room within the academy, which is a relatively niche destination. The environment is elegant, and although the collection is not extensive, one can find a wealth of materials related to ancient towns or water towns, as well as a special book section dedicated to Mu Xin and Mao Dun. After checking in your belongings, you can enter for free and spend a peaceful afternoon reading by the window. The academy is open from 8:00 to 17:00 all year round, with actual business hours subject to the day’s opening status.
