It is known for its continuous mountain ranges, winding valleys, lush bamboo forests, and crisscrossing streams, with its captivating scenery of secluded valleys, streams, and bamboo forests, earning it the nickname ‘Zhedong Xiao Jiu Zhai’. The scenic area is conveniently accessible, only a 30-minute drive from Ningbo city center, and within Ningbo’s one-hour traffic circle, making it a popular destination for hiking, self-driving, and nature-loving tourists. Zhedong Xiao Jiu Zhai’s pristine natural environment is one of its main features, not only boasting natural landscapes such as cliffs, streams, and peculiar rocks, but also a rich vegetation with a variety of rare flora and fauna, including black snails, stream fish, and kingfishers. Additionally, the area is steeped in popular folk tales and touching stories of the red revolution. ‘Tibet has Linzhi, and Ningbo has Zhilin.’ The Zhilin Village, where the scenic area is located, is a well-known ‘anti-Japanese village’ and the existing site of the Zhejiang East Provisional Committee of the Communist Party, which was once the location of the Cilan Engineering Task Force and the temporary headquarters of the Sanbei Guerrilla Command. The Baiyan Temple within the scenic area is also a red revolutionary site; during the later stages of the Anti-Japanese War, it served as the rear hospital for the guerrilla forces, treating the wounded and sick from the 35th Brigade. The scenic area boasts fresh air with a high concentration of negative oxygen ions, earning it the title of ‘natural oxygen bar.’ Hiking along the ancient trails and immersing oneself in the green world of mountains and clear waters allows visitors not only to appreciate the ecological beauty of natural landscapes but also to learn about the red deeds of the New Fourth Army.
