Zhenfeng Cultural Street, also known as Zhongshi Street, is an ancient street within the Zhouzhuang Ancient Town Scenic Area. The street is paved with stone slabs, and on both sides, there are numerous quaint shops with a traditional charm, including those specializing in weaving local cloth, brewing aged wine, and crafting bamboo wares… Shops selling pearls, Suzhou embroidery, and Wan San Ti, a local delicacy, are abundant. While strolling and experiencing the traditional culture of the water town, one can also purchase some souvenirs.


Attractions on Zhenfeng Cultural Street include the Chengxu Taoist Temple, which was originally built during the Yuanyou period of the Song Dynasty (1086-1093 AD), and the Mi Lou, a gathering place for the founders of the Nan Society, including Liu Yazi and Chen Qubing. Several stone bridges such as Tiyun Bridge, Xianyuan Bridge, Puqing Bridge, and Zhenfeng Bridge are also worth visiting.


Traditional workshops on the street include Yuanfeng Shun Wine Workshop (No. 86 Zhongshi Street), which displays original wine-making tools and techniques, and the fragrance of the wine sold there is enticing; Zhenfeng Local Cloth Workshop (No. 97 Zhongshi Street), where elderly people operate manual textile machines at the entrance; other workshops include Suzhou Embroidery Workshop and Bamboo Weaving Workshop, among others.


For a place to have tea and snacks, Sanmao Tea House (No. 111 Zhongshi Street) is quite famous. The interior is adorned with newspaper clippings and letters related to Sanmao, and the owner indeed had a personal connection with Sanmao. If you wander down the alleys branching off the street, you might discover artistic shops like the Cat’s Sky City Concept Bookstore (No. 6 Xianyuan Alley). The street is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
