Zhiping Temple is located in Shangfangshan National Forest Park. Formerly known as Lengqie Temple, it was built by monk Fa Jing in the second year of Tianjian in the Liang Dynasty of the Southern and Northern Dynasties (503 AD). In 1064 AD during the Zhiyuan period of the Northern Song Dynasty, it was renamed. There is an ancient ginkgo tree in the temple with an age of more than 300 years, a height of more than 20 meters, and a trunk circumference of about 3 meters.


Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty made six southern tours. Six times he came to Shihu. Zhiping Temple was a place where he stopped and took a short rest, leaving poems such as ‘Zhiping Temple’. After renovation, Zhiping Temple has restored the Mahavira Hall and built a stele corridor. With a quiet environment, it has become a very attractive scenic spot.
