Zhonghua Xiaode Garden, also known as the Cao’e Scenic Area, is located at the foot of Phoenix Mountain in the southwest of Shangyu City, covering an area of 37.5 hectares. It is the core area of the Cao’e River Provincial Scenic Spot.
The scenic area is themed around ‘filial piety culture’, drawing on the ancient sage Yu Shun, who ‘moved heaven with filial piety’, and Cao E, a filial daughter from the Eastern Han Dynasty who ‘jumped into the river to save her father’. It showcases the long-standing cultural history of Shangyu through the excavation of Yu Shun culture, filial piety culture, Buddhist culture, and folk culture, inheriting and promoting the spirit of filial piety that has inspired the Chinese nation to move forward for thousands of years. The scenic area was designed by the renowned architect Mr. Zhu Guangya, and it mainly includes architectural complexes such as the Great Shun Temple, the Ancestral Temple of Yu Shun, the Prajna Temple, and the Filial Piety Culture Exhibition Hall. It also echoes with the sculpture group ‘Elephant Plowing, Bird Weeding’ created by the art master Mr. Han Meilin. Opening Hours: The scenic area is open from 8:00 to 16:30 all year round.
