The Zhou Enlai’s Residence is a Spanish-style garden villa on Sinan Road. It was the place where Zhou Enlai worked and lived in Shanghai in 1946. The Zhou Enlai’s Residence is well-preserved as a whole. You can still see the room layout at that time inside. You can also see furniture replicated according to the original and some work items. During the negotiations between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, in fact, this was the Shanghai office of the Communist Party of China delegation.
Due to the situation, it was publicly claimed to be Zhou Enlai’s residence, so it is abbreviated as ‘Zhou Enlai’s Residence’. The Zhou Enlai’s Residence is hidden among the plane trees. Now you can see that the ivy has almost covered the entire building. There is also a back garden behind the building. It is quiet in the midst of bustle and the environment is quite beautiful. Please note that taking photos is prohibited inside when visiting. The first floor of the Zhou Enlai’s Residence is the reception room and Zhou Enlai’s office cum bedroom. Zhou Enlai held many press conferences for Chinese and foreign journalists here. The second floor is the studio cum bedroom for foreign affairs personnel of the office. Items such as radios, English typewriters, and mimeograph machines are on display. In the middle of the third floor is a dormitory. It is often used as a temporary residence for many comrades coming and going from south to north. On the ground floor of the villa, there is a reception room and a garage. In the garage is the ‘Buick’ car used by Zhou Enlai (now a replica). Coming to the garden, there is a lawn. Among the grass and trees stands a full-body statue of Premier Zhou. There is also an annex building next to the Zhou Enlai’s Residence. Inside is a historical site picture gallery, which shows the background of the establishment of the office and the working scenes in Shanghai.
