Zhou Peiyuan’s ancestral home is located in Houcun, Fangqiao Town, which originally consisted of two sites. One was located south of Houcun River, built by Zhou Peiyuan’s grandfather, and it was the birthplace of Zhou Peiyuan, which was unfortunately destroyed by a fire in the 1980s. The existing site was constructed by Zhou Peiyuan’s father, Zhou Wenbo.
The total area of Zhou Peiyuan’s ancestral home is over 600 square meters, featuring a blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles. It is a four-room, three-hall structure, surrounded by anti-theft wind and fire walls, with a feudal-era characteristic half-wall gate in the inner courtyard. There is a passage next to the hall for the entry and exit of subordinates, and the revolving floor is connected to the walkway. The Western-style doors and windows are aesthetically innovative, and the glass roof is large and spacious.
Zhou Peiyuan spent his childhood in his ancestral home. In 1986, he donated it to the local government as a science popularization and cultural activity station. Now, Zhou Peiyuan’s former residence serves as a base for patriotic education, housing exhibitions on Zhou Peiyuan’s life and achievements, and also features rooms dedicated to promoting science and technology for urban development, science popularization and cultural propaganda, and youth science activities. It is open all day from January 1st to December 31st.
