Zhouqiao Old Street, located in the urban area of Jiading, has been preserved since the tenth year of the Jiading period in the Southern Song Dynasty (1218). Within a thousand steps, it gathers ancient pagodas, old temples, and famous gardens from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, which is rare in China and can be called the ‘root of Jiading’. It is also a bustling old district with a lot of popularity.
At the same time, the old street serves as a tourism and shopping passage connecting famous historical sites such as the Confucius Temple, Hui Long Tan, and Qiuxia Garden. Zhouqiao, also known as Denglong Bridge, was originally built in 1245 with a single-hole stone arch bridge structure, facing north-south, spanning the Lianqi River, with 13 stone steps on both the north and south sides of the bridge. The bridge was reconstructed in 1998 and is now a cultural protection unit in Jiading District. It is open all year round and accessible 24/7.
