Zhu Ran’s Cemetery is located in Yushan Township in the southern part of the urban area. It is the tomb of Zhu Ran, a general of the Eastern Wu State in the Three Kingdoms period. Excavated in June 1984, many precious cultural relics were unearthed. Some lacquerware fills the gap in the art history of the Three Kingdoms and was listed as one of the top ten archaeological discoveries in China in the 1980s. There is a cultural relics exhibition hall in the cemetery. The exhibition hall is an antique building in the style of the Han Dynasty. Based on the tomb body, it is simple and solemn. In the middle of the hall of the exhibition hall is the tomb chamber, in which there is a coffin. Around are the cultural relics unearthed from the tomb and pictures and Chinese and foreign literature materials related to the research on Zhu Ran’s tomb. Tourists can appreciate the social features of the Three Kingdoms era more than 1,700 years ago during the visit. The tomb passage is located directly south of the tomb pit and is stepped. There are a total of 26 steps with a slope of 19 degrees. The tomb passage is 9.10 meters long and has the same soil color as the burial mound. The tomb pit is under the burial mound. The upper opening is 35 centimeters deep from the ground. The shape of the tomb pit is not very regular. The bottom of the pit is slightly smaller than the pit opening and is 3.60 meters deep from the upper opening of the tomb. The tomb wall is not very smooth and the tomb pit is filled with grayish-white soil. The tomb chamber is located in the center of the tomb pit and is built with bricks. From south to north are the corridor, front chamber, aisle, and back chamber. Measured from the outside, the total length is 8.70 meters and the width is 3.54 meters. The interior is paved with floor tiles in a herringbone pattern. The wall is built in the way of ‘three bricks in length and one brick in transverse for each course’. The dome roof is of the ‘entering from four corners’ type. There are two layers of bricks on each side to build an altar. In the chamber is a lacquered wooden coffin, which is the burial furniture for his wife and concubine. The passage between the front and back chambers is located on the left side. The shape and masonry method are the same as those of the corridor. In the back chamber is a lacquered wooden coffin slightly larger than the one in the front chamber, which is the burial furniture for the tomb owner Zhu Ran. The inner and outer surfaces of the wooden coffin are pasted with a layer of linen and coated with lacquer. The exterior of the coffin is painted black and the interior is painted red. More than 140 burial objects were unearthed in Zhu Ran’s tomb, including lacquerware, porcelain, pottery, bronze ware, etc. Among them, lacquerware accounts for about 57%. Many lacquerware are painted with figure stories and patterns of animals and plants.
