In Dingxu Town of Yixing, there is a village called Shang Yuan, where every household pounds clay and every family makes pottery, known as the cradle of Yixing zisha craftsmanship talent. In the early 1990s, Shang Yuan Village was renamed Zisha Village. The history of pottery making here dates back at least 6500 years. Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, the art of zisha pottery in Shang Yuan Village has become increasingly refined, producing many masters such as potter experts Hui Mengchen, Chen Mingyuan, Shao Daheng, Wang Yunchun, Gu Jingzhou, and so on, who are all pride of this village.
