Ziyang Academy

Ziyang Academy, also known as Zhu Wengong Shrine, mainly enshrines Zhu Xi, a great master of Neo-Confucianism in China. The main building of Ziyang Academy – ‘The First Tower of Xishan’ is a landmark building in Huishan Ancient Town. The First Tower of Xishan has a two-story, three-bay structure, covering an area of 160 square meters and a building area of 280 square meters. The roof ridge is in the Xieshan-style T-shaped ridge pattern with a total height of 10.3 meters. In the front is an overpass building with granite columns and a wharf; in the back is an all-wood structure. Upstairs, there are guardrails, window sashes, and the beams, columns, and brackets are exquisitely carved. When climbing the tower for sightseeing, landscapes such as Baoshan Bridge, Longguang Tower on Xishan Mountain, and the ancestral hall groups on both sides of Longtou River are all in full view. If viewed closely from Xiahetang, ‘The First Tower of Xishan’ is reflected in the water, which is even more beautiful.
